WOLFGANG PICHLER BLURRED BOUNDARIES

Born and raised in the South of Styria/ Austria Wolfgang Pichler - after finishing his architectural studies at the Technical University of Graz - has rediscovered his roots and works in the South of Austria again. Since then, the architect who sees himself as an advocate of plain and authentic design has been formed by different influences. His designs of buildings as well as furniture are characterized by simpleness and the reduction to the essential. The tight relationship to nature constantly shows itself in his designs through the closeness to craft and material. In his own founded outdoor company VITEO>OUTDOORS he has been pursuing the longing for originality, reduction and distinctness in the product day-to-day.

NIKOLA RADELJKOVIĆ WHAT’S DESIGN TO BALKANS AND WHAT’S BALKANS TO DESIGN

Nikola Radeljković is a partner and co-founder of Numen/ForUse, a collective working in fields of scenography, industrial and spatial design and artistic installations. Product design group For Use was formed through collaboration of Sven Jonke, Christoph Katzler and Nikola Radeljković in the year 1998. Two members studied at the School of Design in Zagreb, while Katzler studied at High School for Applied Arts in Vienna. Since then the group designed furniture and objects for companies such as Cappellini, ClassiCon, Desalto, Interlubke, Magis, MDF Italia, Moroso, Prostoria and Zanotta.

In 1999 the group realized several important exhibition design projects and established Numen as a collective identity covering all projects actualized outside the sphere of industrial design. In the initial stage the group included Jelenko Hercog and Toni Uroda, graphic and multimedia designers. Their joint work was characterized by experiments with rule-based design and radical reduction of form, deeply rooted in the tradition of high modernism and mainly applied to various synergetic total-design projects in Croatia.

From 2004. onwards, after setting up a large scale site-specific project for the production of “Inferno” in the National Centre for Drama in Madrid, Numen/ For Use become intensely involved with scenography. Since then the group designed sets in Athens, Belgrade, Berlin, Istanbul, Ljubljana, Madrid, Merida, Osijek, Rijeka, Skopje and Zagreb, working mostly with directors Tomaz Pandur and Aleksandar Popovski with whom they developed a continuous cooperation.

The group had simultaneously developed interior and exterior design projects the most important of which are the integral design of waterfront in Split, interior of Hotel Lone in Rovinj and Osterreich newspaper headquarters in Vienna.

Since 2008. the collective turns towards configuring objects and concepts without a predefined function, an activity resulting in hybrid and experimental works such as Field, N-Light series, Tape, Net, Tuft and String installations.

Parallel to these highly exposed ventures, the group works across disciplines, continuously winning awards for their accomplishments in fields of industrial and set design. Numen/ForUse was awarded Gold Medals for the Best Stage Design and the Best Use of Theatre Technology at PQ 2011.
